The lab of Dr. Gareth Howell at The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Post-baccalaureate Researcher to study the role of immune responses in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Howell lab members, particularly Research Scientist Dr. Kristen Onos, to apply a variety of genetic and biochemical approaches to determine the role of TNF signaling in blood vessel and nerve cell health in mouse models relevant to ADRD. The preferred candidate will work collaboratively to prioritize novel therapeutic targets for ADRD.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties will involve creating and maintaining mouse stains carrying different genetic risk factors for ADRD, treating mice with specific pharmaceutical compounds, and characterizing treated and untreated mice for ADRD relevant outcome measures. In addition to versatility within the laboratory setting, this role requires a high level of self-motivation, organization, and an ability to quickly gain new skills. The candidate must be capable of working independently as well as in a team environment.
Other duties include:
  • Contribute to the development of research objectives; plan and refine research methods and techniques; learn, adopt, and troubleshoot new procedures as needed
  • Collect experimental data and keep detailed and accurate records
  • Interpret and evaluate results; communicate results through reports and presentations
  • Interact productively with lab members and outside collaborators to enhance the operations and outcomes of the research program
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and exercise good judgment in decision-making
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and demonstrated ability to manage details
  • Proficient in various computer software programs to include Word, Excel, and Database management
  • Positive team player
